Cut Price Car Rental   Car rental is a competitive market so if your prepared to look for the deals, you will find them.  The key is to book early to get the best rates.  The best place to start looking are the price comparison sites (see useful links below) but it's also worth checking out a few individual sites for any promotions they may have running.

Your car hire quote will usually have the basic level of insurance cover, and often will have a large excess, typically around £500 to pay in the event of a claim.  Hire car companies will offer you a more comprehensive policy to lower this excess but this can be quite expensive and it often can cost as much as the car hire itself.  Ensure when comparing policies, you take into account the total amount payable including any extras your require.

Other Tips

• If you are also booking a flight and/or hotel, some holiday broker sites and airline companies offer a discount when booked together.

• Check your excesses, car hire excesses can be as high as £1,500.  Also check unlimited mileage restrictions as this can work out expensive.

• Before you start driving inspect and take note of the car’s condition on the hire company’s form and ask they sign the form to verify any damage (this is normally standard procedure with good companies).  Ensure you know the hire companies fuel policy.

• Before you return the car ensure you're present when the inspection is done and don’t just drop the car off.  Keep a copy of the if the return inspections form until payment has been debited.
